Major General A. Bowen Ballard, USAF (Ret) has over 37 years of experience with the United States Air Force. He was the Assistant Chief of Staff / Intelligence HQ USAF at the Pentagon, and He was the Mobilization Assistant to the Commander, Air University Air Education and Training Command, Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, the Special Assistant for Intelligence to the Commander of Air Force Space Command. Additionally he served as a Mobilization Assistant to the Director of the National Security Agency/Chief, Central Security Services, Fort George G. Meade, MD.  

General Ballard enlisted in the Air National Guard in 1965, and was commissioned in the Air Force in 1966.  He attended Air Intelligence School at Lowery Air Base, Colorado, and from 1967 until 1974, he filled various intelligence positions with the 187th Tactical Reconnaissance Group (ANG), Alabama. Upon joining the Air Force Reserves in 1974, he was assigned to the Air Force Intelligence Service at Fort Belvoir, VA. He was then assigned to Scott AFB, IL where he played a key role in transitioning Air Force Special Operation Forces (SOF) from Tactical Air Command to Military Airlift Command and participated with SOF on an international basis.

General Ballard has been involved with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the U.S. European Command over the years. While assigned to the Intel Staff at the Pentagon, he successfully directed the only major reorganization of the Air Force Intelligence Reserves in 20 years. During his assignment as Mobilization Assistant to the Chief of Staff, Intelligence (ACS/I), Headquarters U.S. Air Force, the General was recalled to active duty. He was directly involved in the Middle East and the War on Terrorism and was in the AOR numerous times.      

During his distinctive 37 ½ year military career, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal (USAF), Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with one oak leaf cluster, and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. He retired as a Major General.

William E. “Eddie” Gillenwater

Eddie joined Ballard in 2000 as a Senior Vice President and became President in 2003. He has extensive experience in developing building projects from design to completion, including the preparation of financial packages, proformas and overseeing the construction.  His experience includes financing for HUD and conventional properties.

During his time with Ballard he has been responsible for the asset management of a portfolio in excess of $200 million dollars including both commercial and multi-family properties.

He has used his training and experience to provide property inspection and evaluation services for current and prospective investors.

Eddie holds a current real estate license in AL and MS. Since 2003 he has worked with investors to negotiate and close over $50 million dollars in real estate transactions. He has been responsible for developing investor relations with clients from all across the United States. Working with investors, he has been responsible for helping them understand various markets, and the process of accessing properties, performing due diligence and setting up management teams once a property was purchased.

He has been an instructor in a wide range of subjects including: marketing, property management, fair housing, REAC and sales.

Eddie presently serves on the Executive Board of River Regions Apartment Association. He is past president of the Alabama Apartments Association and currently serves on the board of directors. 

He has been a business leader for over 30 years and is active in professional, civic and religious affiliations. He has served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Montgomery Automobile Dealers Association and in 1998 was its Vice-President. He served as Chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Association 20 Group. He has served as President of the Alabama Apartment Association and currently serves on its Board of Directors.

Eddie obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s Degree in Speech and Communications and Counseling from Southeastern College in Lakeland, FL .

James E. Dotherow, III

A native of Montgomery, Skip was born at Maxwell Air Force Base Hospital; shortly after he and his parents moved to Fort Worth Texas. Skip attended St. Edwards Catholic High School for boys in Austin Texas. Upon graduation from Auburn University he taught school and was an administrator at Capitol Heights Junior High and at Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery. He served as Assistant Director of Admissions for Auburn University-Montgomery.

James E. “Skip” Dotherow joined Ballard Companies in 2003 as Vice President for Finance and Acquisitions and became Executive Vice President in 2006

Skip has spent the past twenty-five years as a senior administrator in various colleges, universities and hospital foundations across the United States. His primary role has been serving at the Vice Presidential level as the chief fundraiser for the institution. In this capacity he has been active in securing the necessary revenues for projects ranging from library additions, resident halls, office buildings, special interests projects, diabetic resource units and permanent endowments.

He has proven his ability to help investors maximize their resources in pursuit of their stated goals. He has demonstrated his ability to assist investors and others in identifying projects that most closely meet their inpidual goals. 

He is a retired member of the United States Air Force having served 33 years of combined federal service including two years in the United States Army. The last 10 years was with the Defense Intelligence Agency.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education in 1972. He completed his Masters Degree in Educational Administration at Auburn University in 1974. He received his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Educational Policy, Management and Technology from the University of Oregon in 2000.

Skip is active in the community serving as chairman of the Wright Flyers of the Chamber of Commerce; board member for the Alabama World Affairs Council; serves as secretary to the board of Trustees for the Air University Foundation, Maxwell Air Force Base; serves on the School of Education Advisory Board, Auburn University- Montgomery Campus; he is a life member and  trustee of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4176 and American Legion Post 2.

Skip is married to the former Teresa L. Kirby of Cross City, Florida and have two grown children, Blythe-Christian Romaine of Tuscaloosa, Al. and James Edward.

Carl R. Corbin

Joined Ballard Realty Company, Inc in 2003 as Vice President and specializes in the areas of commercial leasing and brokerage. Carl offers clients a comprehensive approach to each real estate transaction by combining experience, talent, communication skills and a marketing background to develop a transaction strategy to assure that the best possible solution is attained.

A combination of corporate real estate, leasing, consulting and sales/acquisition experience provides Carl with the expertise in structuring real estate transactions that best fit the client’s objectives. Prior to joining Ballard Realty, Carl worked as a commercial real estate broker for over 25 years in Houston, Texas, and represented office, industrial and retail owners for over 5 million square feet in some 40 projects. Over the last 10 years he has been responsible for several hundred lease transactions in office, industrial and retail projects, and has completed transactions from 1,000 to 170,000 square feet.

Carl holds a B.B.A. Degree in Marketing from Georgia State University. He enjoys working on service projects and has been a team leader with Habitat for Humanity and has worked on other outreach projects with the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR). He currently serves on the Board of Stewards for Frazier United Methodist Church in Montgomery. He is avid golfer, and has served for many years as a marshall captain for the PGA, Nationwide and LPGA Tour golf tournaments.

Carl is a licensed real estate broker in Alabama, and has held a broker’s license in Texas and Georgia.

Chief Financial Officer, Vice President of Finance and Controller, has been with Ballard Companies since 1993.  Former President and Chief Executive Officer of Hooper Air, Inc.  He has further served in the following capacities:  Controller/Chief Financial Officer of Hooper Companies and as a Staff Accountant for Jackson Thornton & Company, CPAs.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Computer Science from Troy State University, graduating in 1984.
